27 – Car Parks Campaign
Overview of Package
A National Road Safety Partnership Program (NRSPP) Organisational Road Safety Campaign
Road safety is a shared responsibility and therefore NRSPP has developed a campaign that can be executed across an entire organisation so all workers are safe on the road and in car parks.
There is an elevated risk of collision in car parks due to inherently dangerous features such as multiple directions of travel, narrow spaces, large pylons, and poor lighting. As such, it’s unsurprising that low-speed manoeuvring and parking incidents are extremely common amongst those who drive for work, making up between 10–21% of fleet insurance claims each year.
Although the act of parking your car may seem simple, it involves several key decisions which may influence the protection of your vehicle and safety of other road users. Taking a moment to be thoughtful and make informed decisions while parking your vehicle can help keep you and those around you safe, and cut down on avoidable and costly insurance claims.
When assessing the risks in this inherently dangerous space, it is important to keep your vehicle size and visibility in mind. Remember, vehicle technology, such as rear view cameras, should always be used as an aid, not a substitute.
