Driving for Better Business (UK)
The Secretary of State for Transport asked the Motorists’ Forum how employers could be encouraged to give a higher priority to road safety for those who drive cars or vans for business purposes. Their key recommendations were:
The need to make employers aware that workplace Health and Safety Legislation applies equally to work-related travel and should be applied in the same way as in the workplace.
The need for a systematic programme of outreach designed to coordinate a network of employer champions drawn from public, private and voluntary sectors who will work through employer networks and associations to deliver awareness.Formally launched in April 2007, Driving for Better Business was a result of these recommendations. The original programme of outreach has further developed into a campaign to recruit more organisations to champion Work Related Road Safety and engage with an ever increasing network of other employers.

Global Road Safety Partnership
The non-profit Global Road Safety Partnership (GRSP) was formed in 1999 and its members are leading multi- and bi-lateral development agencies, governments, businesses and civil society organisations. We are governed through a constitution approved by a Steering Committee of our members.
Hosted by the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, we create and support multi-sector road safety partnerships that are actively engaged with front-line road good practice road safety interventions in many countries around the world.
We also have a role in advocacy and co-ordination at the global level and are a recognised expert source of road safety knowledge and good practice.
Partnership Building
A core element of what GRSP does is partnership building. The organisation always work together with stakeholders from government, business and civil society, in order to support the government’s road safety plan. There is no one single answer to solving the global road safety challenge, but one very powerful approach is that of using multi-sector partnerships to create sustainable change in road safety results.

Older Drivers
Driving a car is an important part of personal, family and work life for millions of us, providing freedom and independence to get about as and when we need to. Driving can be enjoyable and pleasant, but it also involves a certain amount of risk, and can be stressful.
Experienced drivers are, in general, safer than those with less experience. But as we get older, our health and fitness, often including our eyesight, physical condition and reaction times, begins to decline. Age related conditions can also begin to affect our driving. Of course, this is different for each person; there isn’t an age at which we automatically become unsafe to drive.
This website will help you to:
– Recognise whether and how your driving is changing

– Decide what you can do to cope with these changes and find help, such as medical advice, driving assessments and training and vehicle adaptations
– Find a driving assessment or refresher training for your needs
– Understand your legal obligations, such as DVLA rules and procedures
– Plan for the need to change when and where you drive, and if it becomes necessary, to retire from driving. -

Text and Driving - It can wait
This initiative focuses on educating people – especially teens – about the dangers of texting and driving. The message is simple, yet vital: When it comes to texting and driving, it can wait.
Each pledge made to never text while driving is a symbol of commitment to be part of a movement that helps everyone make safe choices with their wireless devices on the road. Teens on average, text five times more a day than a typical adult. That’s a lot of texting! And drivers that text while driving are much more likely to be in a crash*. So we are partnering with teens to get the word out about the serious effect texting and driving could have on their friends, their loved ones and their future.
Together, we can all have a part in making sure that no more lives are lost. No message is so urgent that it is worth diverting attention from the road and risking lives in the process. It Can Wait.

Road accidents and deaths are a worldwide issue, and although some countries have higher levels of reported incidents than others, there’s little doubt the number of accidents on the road is too high, wherever you may live.
Technology is ever-present in our daily lives, especially when it comes to driving. Statistics suggest that drivers using hand-held devices are up to four times more likely to be involved in a car accident.[1]
While our smartphones often act as distractions and can actually cause collisions, they can also reduce the level of risk and promote safer driving through the use of apps. This guide looks at the main areas of road safety where apps are available to help you be a safer driver.

The Road Safety Management Capacity Reviews and Safe System Projects Guidelines have been designed to assist country road safety professionals, World Bank and regional development bank staff, international consultants, community groups, private sector organizations, and all other global, regional and country partners and stakeholders to conduct capacity reviews and prepare follow-up road safety projects in a variety of low and middle-income countries and investment settings.
The purpose of the Guidelines is to:
– Specify a management and investment framework to overcome institutional capacity barriers and support the successful implementation of road safety interventions;
– Provide practical procedures designed for application at a country level to accelerate knowledge transfer and sustainably scale up investment to improve road safety results;
– Ensure that institutional strengthening initiatives are properly sequenced and adjusted to the absorptive and learning capacity of the country concerned.The Guidelines emphasize managing for results and the associated strengthening of country road safety management systems, with special attention being paid to the role of the lead road safety agency in ensuring institutional effectiveness and efficiency in program delivery.
